Many admission officers note that a significant chunk of the applications they receive come in the final 48 hours of the deadline. Many students believe procrastination to be an advantage, as the more urgent the deadline is, the faster they are able to complete every aspect of their application -or so they claim. This couldn’t be further from the truth.
Sure, you can fill some parts of the application at any time, especially when it’s data-based like schools attended, grades, etc. However, when it comes to more elaborate areas like writing that university essay, crafting a personal statement, or answering open-ended questions, exhausting the time frame you’re working with can result in sloppy writing, grammatical errors, and typographical mistakes.
It takes a lot of time and effort to make your application clear, concise, and most importantly impactful. Not only that but sending in your university application at the very last minute shows a lack of interest in the institution you’re pursuing. When you get started early on, you also have time to get invaluable feedback (and act on it) from your teachers and family members.
This is why it is essential that you submit your application as well as supporting documents in advance of posted deadlines, especially considering how quickly spaces tend to fill.
Here are some of the top Canadian universities’ application deadlines for 2021.
